The use of AI in Italians' travel planning.

14 August 2026

Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming a tangible part of travel habits; however, it's not the younger generation that uses it the most.

According to a Trustpilot survey, 61% of Italians between the ages of 25 and 34 already use AI tools to plan their trips, followed by 47% of those between the ages of 35 and 44.

This data comes against a backdrop of greater caution with different spending and behaviors between generations.

Younger travelers are more cautious about spending:

The impact of the current economic scenario is particularly evident among 18-24-year-olds. 67% say they have already canceled or changed a trip since the beginning of 2026, compared to 46% of those over 55

.

In addition, 57% of young people plan to reduce their travel budgets throughout the year. For the public over 55 years old, on the other hand, local or regional travel is a more consolidated choice: 61% point to accessible destinations without a plane as their main option or as a viable alternative.

According to Nicoletta Besio, General Manager for Southern Europe at Trustpilot, AI and reviews are also closely linked: the experiences shared by consumers contribute to the data that AI tools use to generate suggestions about facilities and services. Consequently, as AI plays an increasing role in travel planning, the value of reviews increases; They serve to verify the reliability of the recommendations provided.
