Bookings from French clientele in mountain resorts for winter 2026-2027 are falling, while those from foreigners are rising, according to G2A Consulting's annual balance sheet presented on 13 October. The mountain had 51% of winter bookings made at the time, compared to 53% a year earlier. In July, bookings fell by 3.8%, and 6.6% in French clientele alone, compared to 2% more for foreigners.
Price takes precedence over snow as the first criterion for choice. A week's accommodation costs an average of €1,854 for French clientele (-0.2%), compared to €2,358 for the British and €2,323 for the Dutch. Christmas and New Year's Eve are the weak point, with 57.2% occupancy to date, 6.6 points less than last year, while January (+0.3% of overnight stays) and March (+4.1%) rise, driven by seniors and urban couples. 4 and 5-star hotels gain 2.1 booking points and 1 to 3-star hotels lose 4.7 points.
G2A predicts a season in slight decline, with -0.27% of overnight stays and 55.3 million days of skiing (-1.4%). The study is based on a survey of 1,000 French people and 500 accommodations and data from 8,500 accommodations, as of October 8, 2026.
The study confirms a French traveller who arbitrates each expense and favours the cheapest seasons, outside the school holidays, with the high-end clientele maintaining their habits. For Portugal, the intermediate seasons, such as January and March, and the good-priced offers for seniors and couples are windows to work with French operators.
