In June 2026, tourist accommodation establishments recorded 3.1 million guests (+1.0%) and 8.1 million overnight stays (+0.7%). Among the main source markets, Sweden (+17.4%), Poland (+10.0%) and Denmark (+85.3%) stood out with the highest year-on-year monthly growth in the number of overnight stays. By NUTS II region, Norte (+4.8%), Grande Lisboa (+2.3%) and Alentejo (+2.1%) were the regions that saw the greatest increases in this indicator.

In the period from January to June 2026, Portugal welcomed 15.1 million visitors who generated 37 million overnight stays, mainly from the United Kingdom (share: 18.0 per cent), Germany (11.9 per cent) and the USA (10.0 per cent).

Flash estimates

According to the Bank of Portugal, the following trends are forecast for the travel and tourism item in the balance of payments for the month of June 2026 and for the period from January to June 2026:

In June 2026, the preliminary travel and tourism indicator points to a 2.7 per cent increase in exports compared with June 2025, totalling €2,538.04 million (following a 5.2 per cent change in May 2026) and a 6.0 per cent increase in imports (€665.61 million), following a 6.6 per cent change in May 2026.

For the first half of 2026, tourism revenue (€12,862.66 million) exceeds the figure recorded in the same period of 2025 (€12,350.13 million), representing an increase of 4.1 per cent.

Tourism expenditure reported for the cumulative period from January to June 2026 (€3,126.88 million) will be higher than the figure recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year (€2,971.56 million), representing an increase of 5.2 per cent.
