Italians under 35 are travelling more, but taking shorter trips that are planned further in advance. This is according to data from Trip.com on trips scheduled for September and October 2026.
Bookings made on the platform by customers aged 18-35 grew by 66% compared to 2025 — more than double the 30% increase recorded among Italian customers in general. The number of young people using the Trip.com is also increasing (+39%), while the average bookings per traveler grew by 19%.
Train travel shows the highest growth: rail bookings made by this audience rose by 113%, with an 89% increase in the number of young people choosing this mode of transport on the platform. Among the most popular routes are Milan-Rome, Florence-Milan, Milan-Venice and Milan-Florence.
At the same time, they are planning their trips further in advance: an average of 75 days for flights, 69 for hotels and 37 for trains. On the other hand, travel times are decreasing; stays of one or two nights already represent 62% of the total..."
