Solo travel continues to gain popularity among the Dutch. According to data from Transavia, the number of bookings made by individual travellers increased by 30% between 2024 and 2026, and in the first quarter of 2026, almost half of bookings were already for solo travel. The main motivation is the freedom to set one's own pace and itinerary, without depending on fellow travelers. The trend is especially strong among Millennials and Zillennials (up to 45 years old), although it is also significant among young and senior women. Based on booking data and the tourist attractiveness of the destinations, Transavia identified Lisbon as the best European destination to travel alone, followed by Salzburg, Venice, Amsterdam, Vienna, Pula, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Madrid and Paris.
