Tourism registers strong wage increase in Germany

10 August 2026

Wages in the tourism, hotel and restaurant sector have increased significantly in Germany between 2020 and 2025, according to an analysis by the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit). According to the data, released by the newspaper Bild, income in tourism and hospitality grew by 37.3%, above inflation and the national average. Despite these developments, wages in the sector remain below the German median. The increase is mainly attributed to labour shortages after the pandemic, the recovery in demand for travel, and improved wage conditions and collective agreements.
