Portugal wants to grow value in the British market with travel agents and focus outside the Algarve

The

United Kingdom remains Portugal's main international market, with growth in British visitors and revenues in early 2026. The strategy for 2027 is to increase the value generated, stimulating longer stays, more geographical dispersion and more demand outside the high season, in addition to the Algarve.

Porto and the North stand out with a 14% increase in visitors and overnight stays from the British public between January and August, while the Alentejo also gains ground (+11% of visitors).

Portugal will work in a reinforced way with the British trade — agencies and operators — with marketing actions, training, educational content and fam trips. The approach also includes measures aligned with sustainability, promoting trips at the hinge of seasons and authentic experiences in less visited regions.
