Nine out of ten French people leave dream trips unfulfilled

11 September 2026

Nine out of ten participants in a study conducted by Qualimétrie for Marco Vasco say they have a dream destination or a travel experience that they never realized. The survey took place online between June 24 and 30, 2026 and brought together 1,033 people aged 25 and over.

Budget is the main obstacle, mentioned by 68% of respondents, followed by lack of time, with 40%, and the complexity of the organization, with 33%. The time limitation reaches 59% between the ages of 25 and 34 and 48% among the higher socio-professional categories, while the difficulty of organization rises to 43% in the Paris region.

Despite these barriers, 75% plan to travel abroad in the next six months and 85% plan to do so in 2027, but only 5% have already made a booking. Geopolitical tensions have not changed the willingness to travel of 66% of participants, while 20% have felt a reduction, and 48% intend to resume a postponed or cancelled trip.

Europe gathers 53% of intentions for the following year and is chosen by 66% of participants who plan to stay from one week to ten days. For trips from ten to twenty days, half prefer Asia. The results reveal a latent demand, but cannot be generalized to the French population, because the sample includes active internet users from households with at least 2,500 euros of net monthly income per person after tax.
