Last-minute bookings boost the tourism market in May

Data from Travel Data + Analytics (TDA) shows that last-minute bookings accounted for 29% of German market turnover in May 2026, four percentage points higher than in the same month of 2025. By contrast, bookings for summer and autumn remain below last year's levels, reflecting consumers' caution in the face of geopolitical instability.

Growth is concentrated in online channels, while physical agencies are experiencing declines, especially in long-haul travel. Demand for the winter also weakened, penalized by uncertainty around Middle Eastern air hubs.
