While Italian industry remains stable, tourism is expanding. In July, industrial production increased (+0.7%), driven by consumer goods (+2.1%). The cumulative growth projection for 2026 reveals disparities between sectors: the automotive industry is recovering (+8.8%), with growth also recorded in the other transport equipment and computer/electronics segments, while the furniture, textiles/clothing/leather and chemicals sectors are declining.

However, the August PMI index fell below the neutral level (49.6). These data are contained in the September economic bulletin of the Center for Confindustria Studies, which also points out that the growth of the services sector was mainly driven by international tourism.

In July, the number of tourist stays in Italy increased (+3.5% compared to the previous year). There was growth in the number of foreign visitors (+7.3%) and in the duration of their stays (+0.3 days, on average), while the flow of domestic tourists within the country fell (-1.3%).
