A total of 13.5 million Italians chose to go on vacation in July, a lower number than last year, mainly due to a change in the holiday period, as demonstrated by the increase in departures during the month of June. These data come from a Coldiretti/Ixè poll, released at the beginning of the first weekend of summer marked by "red level" traffic alerts on the roads, as the mass exodus to holiday destinations begins, after days of record heat interspersed with bad weather. The coastline remains the preferred choice, followed by mountains, rural areas, parks and cities.
Most travelers (28%) spend between four days and a week away from home, while 25% take a trip lasting one to two weeks. However, 13% opt for a short stay, of a maximum of three days.
