Brazil recorded historic results in the arrival of foreign tourists in 2026. In August, the country received 576.2 thousand international visitors, the best performance for the month since the beginning of the time series, in 2009, representing a growth of 2.5% compared to the same period in 2025. From January to August, there were 6.4 million foreign tourists, maintaining the pace recorded in the previous year, when Brazil surpassed the mark of 9 million international visitors.
The growth in international demand was also reflected in the movement of Brazilian airports. In August, international flights carried 2.5 million passengers, an increase of 3.4% in the annual comparison. In total, the country's airports handled 11.5 million passengers in the month, an increase of 2.5% compared to August 2025, a result close to that recorded during the high season in July. São Paulo concentrated the largest airport movement, with emphasis on Guarulhos International Airport, which received 4.2 million passengers.
The numbers reinforce the continued expansion of international tourism in Brazil, which had already reached a record of more than 9 million foreign visitors in 2025. August's performance shows the country's strength as a tourist destination, especially for maintaining expressive results even during the low season. The advance of international air connectivity and the increase in passenger flow contribute to sustaining the growth of the sector and expanding Brazil's presence in the global tourism market
