Brazil leads anxiety due to lack of internet when traveling abroad, says study

28 September 2026

A survey commissioned by Airalo and carried out by YouGov points out that Brazilians are the ones who feel the most anxiety due to lack of internet during international travel, among the nine countries analyzed. The survey, which heard 502 Brazilians who traveled abroad in the last two years, revealed that the average level of anxiety in the country reaches 8.22, on a scale of 0 to 10, surpassing Mexico, Italy and the United States. In addition, 90% of respondents consider mobile connection essential for safety while traveling, a rate higher than the global average of 80%.

The lack of connectivity is also related to concrete situations of insecurity. According to the study, 52% of Brazilians have already remained in uncomfortable or unsafe situations because they are unable to access maps or request transportation due to the absence of internet. The survey also shows that 60% of Brazilian travelers have already used security tools that depend on constant connection, such as real-time location sharing. This percentage rises to 63% among women and 68% among LGBTQIA+ people, highlighting the importance of connectivity for different traveler profiles.

The survey also highlights that internet access influences the choice of destinations and the freedom to explore new places. About 90% of Brazilians say that a stable connection provides more confidence to get off traditional tourist routes, while 81% say they would be more willing to visit destinations that they would normally avoid for safety reasons if they had guaranteed internet. The results reinforce the role of connectivity as a resource that goes beyond convenience, being considered a tool for guidance, communication and safety during international travel.
