European airports recorded a 2.6% growth in passenger numbers in the first half of 2026, but the pace of expansion slowed in the second quarter, according to ACI Europe. The association attributes this evolution, among other factors, to the conflict in the Middle East and the increase in aviation fuel prices. Italy and Spain stood out among the main markets with growth of 4.2% and 3.7%, respectively, while Germany recorded a drop of 1.2%. ACI Europe also warns of the negative impact that the expected delays with the implementation of the new European entry and exit control system (EES) may have on the attractiveness of Europe as a tourist destination.
