8 out of 10 Italians choose villages and rural tourism to avoid overtourism.

Rural tourism, slow tourism and  linked to small towns and villages, has gone from being a niche choice to becoming a consolidated and conscious preference: in the last year, 67% of Italians have spent at least one holiday in a rural destination or away from the large crowds of tourists and 80% say that they will certainly or probably consider such destinations for future trips. These data come from the second edition of the Osservatorio sul Turismo dei Territori  da Feries, the company that owns the portals Agriturismo.it and CaseVacanza.it.

The main reasons for this choice include the search for authenticity and local culture (59%), followed by the desire to avoid mass tourism and overtourism (47%), immersion in nature (46%) and the search for relaxation and mental well-being (43%) ..."
