In August 2026, tourist accommodation establishments recorded 3.9 million guests (+1.9 per cent) and 10.9 million overnight stays (+1.7 per cent). Among the main source markets, Canada (+11.2%), the USA (+5.8%) and Spain (+5.0%) stood out with the highest year-on-year monthly growth in the number of Overnight Stays. By NUTS II region, the Norte (+4.5%) and the Alentejo (+2.6%) were the regions that saw the greatest increase in this indicator.
In the period from January to August 2026, Portugal welcomed 22.4 million guests who generated 57.3 million overnight stays, mainly from the United Kingdom (share: 17.9 per cent), Germany (11.0 per cent) and Spain (9.7 per cent).
Revenue in August reaches 4.4 billion euros
Revenue in August 2026 reached 4.4 billion euros, an increase of 2.0 per cent compared with the homologous period last year. According to the Banco de Portugal, France (19.6 per cent), the United Kingdom (13.7 per cent) and Spain (13.6 per cent) were the three tourist markets with the highest shares in August.
