In 2025, the tourist accommodation sector recorded 32.5 million guests (+2.8%) and 82.0 million overnight stays (+2.1%), generating EUR 7,133.2 million in total revenue (+6.9%) and EUR 5,472.1 million in room revenue (+6.6%). The domestic market grew faster than the international market, with overnight stays by residents increasing by 5.0%, compared with a 0.8% increase in overnight stays by non-residents. Nevertheless, international markets remained predominant, accounting for 69.5% of overnight stays.
Among the main international markets, the United States and Canada maintained positive performances, with overnight stays increasing by 5.3% and 5.8%, respectively. The United Kingdom remained the leading international market, accounting for 17.7% of overnight stays by non-residents, despite a 1.6% decrease compared with 2024.
In terms of airport passenger flows, approximately 36.0 million passengers disembarked at Portuguese airports, representing an increase of 4.7% compared with 2024. Lisbon Airport received 18.2 million arriving passengers, accounting for approximately 50.4% of the national total.
Tourism receipts reach EUR 29.1 billion
In 2025, tourism receipts reached EUR 29.1 billion, approximately EUR 1.4 billion more than in 2024, corresponding to an increase of 5.0%. Tourism expenditure totalled EUR 7.2 billion (+4.5%), resulting in a tourism balance surplus of approximately EUR 22.0 billion, 5.1% higher than in the previous year.
The United Kingdom was the largest source market in terms of tourism receipts, generating EUR 4.3 billion and accounting for 14.7% of the total. It was followed by Germany, with EUR 3.4 billion, France, with EUR 3.2 billion, and the United States, also with approximately EUR 3.1 billion.
