Travel market grows, but agencies lose ground

15 October 2026

In the summer of 2026, the German package travel market recorded a 4% increase in revenues and a 2% increase in the number of travellers, according to data from >Travel Data + Analytics (TDA) released by the German Travel Association (DRV). Growth was mainly driven by last-minute bookings through online channels, while many travel agencies recorded a less favourable performance. The Eastern Mediterranean stood out, with revenues growing by 8%, driven by Greece (+10%), Turkey (+9%) and Egypt (+4%). The Spanish mainland (+11%) and cruises (+5%) also recorded positive results, unlike long-haul voyages, whose revenues fell by 14%. For the winter of 2026/27, bookings are still 2% below the previous year, with particularly weak demand for the United Arab Emirates and the USA, while Thailand, the Maldives and the Dominican Republic show a more favorable evolution.
