The French remain strongly attached to vacations, despite financial constraints and security concerns

26 May 2026

Tourist bookings by French tourists have fallen by between 15% and 25% since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East, and the trend towards last-minute bookings, shorter stays and nearby destinations is growing.

The French remain interested in traveling in the summer of 2026, but with greater caution due to international tensions, inflation and rising transport costs. Last-minute bookings, shorter stays and the preference for nearby and safe destinations are growing.

More than half of French tourists intend to spend their holidays in France, while international travel intentions are decreasing. The average budget also fell, reflecting greater financial restraint and inequalities in access to vacations.
