20 October 2026

Skyscanner has officially released its Travel Trends Report 2027, outlining the evolution of Italian travelers' habits and top destinations for the year ahead. Despite an overall slowdown in consumer spending, the tourism sector remains resilient: 57% of Italian travelers say they will travel as much or more in 2027 compared to the previous year, adopting budget management strategies that prioritize essential services and the use of intelligent search tools.

The 7 trends for 2027:

Resulting from partnerships with global partners such as TikTok, ClassPass, Wise and Universal Music Group, a shift from the consumption of material goods to experiences of high personal value is revealed:

1.           Digital Detox: there is a growing demand for isolated places to disconnect from the digital world. 29% of Gen Z travelers are looking for offline vacations, driving interest in destinations such as Sal, Cape Verde (+339% in searches), and Mersa Matruh, Egypt (+182%).

2.           Merch Hunting: (search for unique products): 43% of Italians plan trips specifically to buy handmade products or local clothing collections that are not available online.

4.           Modern Odysseys: Period films and historical epics influence the choice of destinations for 34% of respondents, stimulating interest in cultural and archaeological itineraries.

5.           Gym-cation: 65% of Millennials and 38% of Gen Z travelers choose hotels based on the quality of their gyms and healthy food options.

6.           Sound Connected: The demand for music experiences is driving the flow of travel to regional festivals and places with a striking atmosphere (volcanoes, caves, historic sites) — a preference shared by 33% of tourists.

7.           Budget Hunter (search for deals): 30% of travelers guide their destination choice at favorable exchange rates, as evidenced by the 25% increase in searches for Vietnam.

Trending destinations and best value for money options:

At the top of the list of destinations with the highest annual increase in searches is Sal Island (Cape Verde, +339%), driven by the trend of "slow" tourism and its tropical beaches.

The ranking follows with Bishkek, in Kyrgyzstan (Central Asia); Mersa Matruh, known as the "Caribbean of Egypt"; Evenes, in Norway, gateway to the Lofoten Islands; Da Nang, in Vietnam; Chengdu, in China (the city of pandas); Marina di Campo, on the Italian island of Elba; Rabat, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco; Shannon, in Ireland, for those looking for nature and adventures by car; and Kalamata, on the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece. In terms of affordability and savings on airfare, the list is led by the Greek island of Lemnos, which recorded an average drop of 61% in flight prices compared to the previous year.
