Rising costs influencing Irish holiday plans

01 July 2026

According to a study, the rise in the cost of living continues to affect Irish consumers' holiday plans, with no increase in spending in 2025 and 2026. About half expect to spend the same or more on their main trip, while one in six expect to reduce spending and one in five say they cannot afford vacations. The study identifies a clear divide between consumers with different levels of financial ability.

The results show that consumption decisions vary significantly, with some households increasing or reducing spending significantly, reflecting changes in their economic or personal circumstances. This variation shows that consumer behavior does not uniformly follow the evolution of the economy.

Despite the limitations, 58% of consumers planning holidays indicate that they will travel abroad, with the main reason being the search for better weather. Still, consumer confidence remains constrained by economic uncertainty and the impact of energy costs.
