More expensive holidays and instability lead Dutch people to book more often at the last minute

04 June 2026

The Dutch still want to travel, but they are booking later and comparing prices, dates and destinations more closely due to the rising cost of holidays and international instability. In April, trips were booked, on average, 81 days in advance, compared to 87 days in the previous year. Europe accounted for 89% of bookings, up from 83% in 2025, while bookings to North America decreased by 38% and to Asia by 26%. Spain, Greece, Turkey, Curacao and Bonaire are benefiting from this change, while destinations in the Middle East and travel to the Far East are less in demand.
