Italians' holidays increase in September.

25 August 2026

The summer was positive for Italian tourism: a study by the Tourism Economy Observatory of ISNART - National Institute of Tourism Studies, estimates an average growth of 4.6%. With regard to the domestic market, 48.7% of the operators surveyed report stable demand, while 31.8% point to an increase – indicating that companies are facing uncertainty with greater flexibility in bookings, strengthened direct sales channels and a focus on local and European markets at the expense of long-distance travel.

The study further clarifies this trend, highlighting that around 16 million Italians travelled in August, accompanied by a significant increase in the number of people planning their holidays for September.

Destinations: (...) On the international scene, the Greek islands and the Balearic Islands are very popular; the Red Sea is once again attracting interest, Northern Europe attracts visitors thanks to the climate, and — when it comes to long-haul travel — Japan, China, and South America are all in the spotlight.
