The Expedia group, which operates the Expedia platforms, Hotels.com and Abritel, identifies the one-night stay as one of the major travel trends for 2027, also in France. Searches for one-night stays in the Hotels.com rose by about 10% in one year, especially among Generations Z and Y, and 45% of these travelers consider finding a good price opportunity to be the main criterion. The study is based on a OnePoll survey of 26,000 adults in 16 countries, conducted between August 4 and September 1, 2026.
In France, 83% of respondents see this getaway as a way to pamper themselves waiting for the next big trip and 71% have booked a hotel night for leisure in the last 12 months. The most cited motivations are the break between two long trips (37%) and the celebration of an event, such as a birthday (23%). Among Millennials, concerts and sporting events (32%) and working hours (26%) also count. The Hotels.com registers an increase in searches for Seville and Girona, in Spain, and for Oslo, Edinburgh and Bari.
The study also points to a return to childhood: 25% of the French surveyed have made this type of stay in the last 12 months (55% in Generation Z) and 46% will be able to book an adults-only stay in an amusement park next year (84% in Generation Z). Finally, 88% would be interested in a trip focused on a hobby and 56% could organize it, with traditional renting as the ideal accommodation for 72%. Short formats, linked to events or hobbies, are an opportunity for Portugal, a destination close to the French market.
