For 9 out of 10 Italians, connectivity is essential for safety while traveling.

Staying connected when traveling abroad is not just a convenience, but a real need for security. According to the survey called "Safe When Traveling", carried out by Airalo (eSIM platform and the first unicorn in the sector) in partnership with YouGov, 91% of Italian travelers consider mobile data connectivity essential to feel safe abroad.

Italy ranks among the countries with the highest scores on the security-related network dependency index, registering an average level of "disconnection anxiety" of 6.69 out of 10 (reaching 7.1 among women), compared to averages of 5.4 in Germany and 5.8 in the United Kingdom.

Risk perception and most vulnerable groups:

The report highlights that 29% of Italians have already needed to access the internet for safety-related reasons. The situations perceived as most critical are those that involve little control over the environment:

Walking alone at night: affects the perception of safety of 51% of Italians — a rate that rises to 62% among women and 61% among LGBTQIA+ travelers.

Exploring areas off the beaten track: 33%.

Difficulty communicating with the local population: 29%.

Going out at night to bars/clubs: cited by 34% of women (Italy is one of the few markets where this factor is particularly relevant).
