In January 2026, tourist accommodation establishments recorded 1.7 million guests (+3.8%) and 3.7 million overnight stays (+5.6%). Among the main source markets, Canada stood out with the highest year-on-year growth in overnight stays (+12.5%), while the North was the region that saw the largest increase in this indicator (8.2%).

According to Banco de Portugal, the preliminary travel and tourism indicator for January 2026 points to a 3.0% growth in exports compared to January 2025, totaling €1,596.34 million (following a 2.2% variation in December 2025). Furthermore, there was a 5.7% increase in imports (€377.16 million), following a 9.0% variation in December 2025.
