Tourism Outlook - 2024

The tourist accommodation sector registered 1.9 million guests and 4.2 million overnight stays in December 2024. The guests increased 3.6% and the overnights rised 2.9% compared to the same month of 2023. 

Total revenue increased 9.2%, reaching 313,8 million euros, and revenue from accommodation reached 222,5 million euros, reflecting a growth of 9.3%.

In the year of 2024, overnight stays reached 80,3 million and increased by 4.0%; and guests rised 5.2% to 31,6 million guests. 

Total revenue, which achieved 6.669,2 million euros until December 2024, grew by 10.9%, and revenue from accommodation, which reached 5.128,0 million euros, grew in a positive way: +10.9%.

The tourism receipts registered 27.651,5 million euros in 2024, an increase of 8.8% (var.24/23).

According to data released by Banco de Portugal, on February 19, 2025, the markets with the highest year-on-year growth were the USA (+13.9%), the Netherlands (+13.5%), and Switzerland (+10.4%).
