Activities related to Accommodation and Food Services and Similar employed 341.0 thousand individuals in 2025, 23.0 thousand more than in the same period of 2024 (+7.2%). The employed population in these sectors represented 6.5% of the total economy (+0.3 percentage points compared to 2024). For the third consecutive year, the majority (57%) of employees in the Accommodation and Food Services and Similar sectors had secondary and higher education (+0.3 percentage points compared to 2023). The worker in accommodation and food services in 2025 tends to be predominantly female and exhibits a more “flexible” work pattern than observed in the overall economy: there is a relatively higher presence of self-employment and a higher incidence of part-time contracts. From an age perspective, it is also a sector with a slightly younger structure, with a lower proportion of workers aged 45 and over compared to the national average.

In 2025, the accommodation and catering sector in Portugal recorded an average gross monthly remuneration of 1,145 euros per job, representing an increase of 6.5% compared to 2024. This increase exceeded the average growth of the national economy, which was 5.8%, reaching 1,686 euros.
