Green and Sustainable Flying Report 2022

ERA – European Regions Airline Association has just released its European Aviation Environmental Report 2022. The report analyzes the environmental performance of the European regional aviation sector in recent times.

This “Green and Sustainable Flying” report describes the work done by regional aviation stakeholders, particularly airlines, to address environmental concerns. The European regional market presents a different type of demand and services which makes regional airlines unique and essential in some regions, for example, where there is no alternative.

Reducing CO2 emissions using technological improvements is the solution preferred by ERA members, as it brings real reductions in CO2 emissions in the sector. Many ERA member airlines first seek to modernize their fleet by integrating the latest generation, fuel efficient and quietest aircraft available on the market. Second, they are integrating partnerships with manufacturers and academia to investigate the potential of disruptive technologies and accelerate their development. Examples of this are the development of hybrid or all-electric aircraft to replace conventional engines with battery-powered electric motors or with a hydrogen fuel cell.

ERA and its members are committed to making aerial sustainability a reality, as stated in the first edition of this report:

Not flying is not an option for many people, given the benefits that aviation brings, and the passengers should not to be faced with the dilemma 'to fly or not to fly', we should rather strive to fly sustainably.
