Thermal Baths in Portugal - 2021

turismo de saúde
In 2021, 49 thermal establishments operated in Portugal, of which 49% were located in the Centre region and 43% in the North of the country. Around 59,500 clients chose to spend a few days in these units, 36% of them underwent thermal treatments. The remaining 64% prefered a short leisure and well-being stay.
Although classic spa treatments received fewer guests, it was this branch that generated the highest turnover, corresponding to 77% of the total. In this year, classic thermal tourism generated €5.8 million, an 83% increase compared to 2020, but still 49% less compared to 2019 (pre-pandemic year).
Almost seven out of ten customers, who use classical thermal treatments, are aged 65 or over; only 8.3% are foreigners; and each one paid an average of 273.43 euros for the treatments.
